Important Message Regarding CEU Requirements! Act Now!

Dear THIMA Health Information Professionals,

I hope this letter finds you well. As current President of THIMA, I am writing to you as a concerned member and leader of the HI community. As you may be aware, the recent decision by the Commission on Certification for Health Informatics and Information Management (CCHIIM) to require 40% of Continuing Education Units (CEUs) to be obtained through the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) has raised significant concerns among professionals in our field, including the THIMA Board of Directors.

We understand the importance of promoting exceptional education and professional development, and we believe that the 40% requirement will limit HI Professionals’ ability to explore a diverse range of educational opportunities and may place an undue financial burden on them.

Along with several other CAs we have developed a petition to give HI professionals in TN the opportunity to oppose the new CCHIIM requirement that 40% of continuing education credit must be obtained from AHIMA. If you agree with our assessment, your participation in signing the petition is crucial in expressing our collective concerns and advocating for a more inclusive approach to continuing education within our profession.

We appreciate your ongoing commitment to the field of Health Informatics and Information Management.

Best regards,
Melissa Koehler, DHA, MBA, RHIA, CHDA, CDIP, CCS, CCS-P, CCDS, CRCR, FAHIMA
