THIMA eNews - April 2010
President's Message
Dear THIMA Members:
What
an exciting Spring we are having!!!! In March, your THIMA delegates attended
the AHIMA Winter Team Talks and Hill Day in Washington DC. At the Winter Team
Talks, we discussed the direction of our association and how our profession
touches on so many different levels within the healthcare arena. One of the
more exciting items was the opportunity to be present in Washington DC for the
signing of the Health Care Bill. Whether you are personally opposed or for the
bill, it was still exciting to be present in our nation's capitol as we watched
history being made.
This was my second "AHIMA Hill Day" and
I have to say that the AHIMA Washington DC office has made a lot of progress in
getting our names out there. We were all thrilled to walk into our Senators'
office and not have to spend the first fifteen minutes explaining exactly what
it is we do or what our association is about. With all the changes within ARRA,
HITECH, ICD-10, and the new Health Care Bill, each senate staff member was aware
of who we are and expressed the importance of our positions.
I hope you
didn't miss the THIMA Annual Meeting, April 7 -9. What a wealth of
knowledge was shared and what a great time we had!! We learned more about
the establishment of the TN Regional Extension Center and about ongoing plans
for health information exchange in TN. Fortunately, HIM
professionals are very involved in both efforts!
My fellow HIM
colleagues, I will tell you that our profession and association are now planted
firmly on the challenging map of healthcare, both Nationally and in Tennessee.
It is up to each of us to be ready for these challenges. Your THIMA Board of
Directors strives promote the HIM profession and provide needed continuing
education. Please take advantage of the
series of webinars we are co-sponsoring with THA addressing 'meaningful use' of
EMR/EHR. We welcome your feedback!
Sincerely,
Elizabeth
