President's Message

Fall Greetings Everyone!!!!!

As we begin to feel the cool air in Tennessee, it reminds me of the changing leaves and wondrous colors that we have a great opportunity to see across our state, but it also makes me realize the changes that our profession is continuously facing in our workforce.  THIMA  kicked off the 2009 year with a bang, as usual, with your THIMA delegates meeting in Washington DC for the AHIMA Winter Team Talks in March, having the Annual THIMA Meeting in April, and attending the AHIMA Summer Team Talks in Chicago in July.  Needless to say we have been busy, but as an association we are so fortunate to have such a strong delegate group to represent us at these national forums.

Your delegates will be representing you at the AHIMA House of Delegates meeting next week in Grapevine, TX.  The Resolution below, drafted by the THIMA delegation, will be voted on during the House.

Resolution For Professional Guidelines/Best Practices For Electronic Documentation

I wanted to take this moment to thank all of our volunteers for all of their hard work and dedication; I appreciate you more than words can say!  I also want to remind all of our members to volunteer at a local and state level, I can truly say that this has been one of the best experiences I have had in my professional career and the friendships that you form through this organization is something you carry with you in life always.  As always, please feel free to reach out to your delegates, board of directors, and local representative for any questions or assistance, and remember to visit our new website for many upcoming events.

Sincerely,

Elizabeth A Delahoussaye, RHIA
President-THIMA

Important Message from TN Disability Determination Section

The Tennessee Disability Determination Section (DDS) has recently been in the news media due to a wrong FAX number being released to our medical providers, but also because of human error on the part of some providers who submit their medical evidence via FAX.  The correct FAX number is 1-866-599-3866.

This problem could be avoided with a simple solution---the use of the Social Security Administration’s secure website---the Electronic Records Express (ERE).  Requests for medical records can be sent out electronically and they can be received back that way as well.  This reduces the expense of employee time, postage, paper and toner.  This is especially beneficial for anyone who has electronic records at present, but, if not, a scanner and computer with high speed internet are the only items needed to access ERE.

If you are interested in signing up for this service, please contact Betty Hood @ (615) 743-7774 or betty.j.hood@ssa.gov

AHIMA Foundation

Are you aware of the good work being done by the AHIMA Foundation?  Many THIMA members support the Foundation, and you can too.  Click here to learn more about it:  http://ahimafoundation.org/

One of the initiatives of the Foundation is to award scholarships to HIM students and professionals – As is the case this year, THIMA members and students are often recipients of these scholarships.

Please get involved and consider making a donation to this worthy cause – it’s called ‘giving back’ and it’s something we all should consider.
