We invite you to participate in the first ever THIMA Hill
Day! TN Hospital Association has graciously agreed to allow us to
‘piggy-back’ on the THA Hill Day. The date is Tuesday, February 17.
Members of the THIMA Legislative Committee and Board of Directors will be
attending.
If you would like to participate, here’s what to do:
- Register for the THA Hill Day (the fee is $15 unless you want to attend the
reception as well, which is entirely up to you) Click here for a registration
brochure
http://www.tha.com/pdffiles/2009/2009-tha-leg-rec-broc.pdf
- Call your legislators to schedule your personal visits. Go to
http://www.legislature.state.tn.us/ for details on your elected officials. The
visits should be scheduled between 2:30 pm and 5 pm on February 17.
- Contact Cindy Nixon (cnixon@crmchealth.org)
and let her know that you will be attending, with whom you have meetings, and
the time of the meetings.
- Plan to arrive at the Legislative Plaza by 10 am. There will be a briefing for
THIMA members – we’ll let you know where.
Our goal this year is to give you an opportunity to get to
know your legislators, provide insight and education for our elected
officials about the HIM profession and our role in the healthcare industry,
and to support the legislative initiatives of THA. Please consider being
a part of this exciting event!

The survey completed last year by the Tennessee e-HIM Ambassadors revealed
that progress is being made across the State to move away from paper-based
medical records to online medical records. According to the survey results:
-
65% of the respondents stated their organization
still prints ancillary and transcribed reports for charting purposes
even though 75% of the respondents indicated that these reports are
available electronically for review;
-
documentation on paper by nursing and other non-MD
personnel was reported to still be the more common practice with 72% of
the respondents stating this is the practice at their organization.
-
only 47% of the respondents indicated that their
organization had a committee in place to oversee the implementation of
the electronic record.
THIMA would like you to share your organizations’
experiences, accomplishments, and journey towards an eHIM environment. Send
an email to Donna at coomesdf@msha.com.
