Overview

What is HITECH, ARRA, REC, EHR, and HIE…and what does it mean
to your bottom line?
Join the Tennessee Health Information Management Association (THIMA), Tennessee Hospital Association (THA), Tennessee Medical Association (TMA), Tennessee Medical Group Management Association (TMGMA) Tennessee Health Information Management Systems Society (TNHIMSS) and State Volunteer Mutual Insurance Company (SVMIC) for the first in a series of educational opportunities to learn about:

The HITECH Act provisions
The State’s plans for Health information Exchange (HIE)
The opportunity for support from a Regional Extension Center (REC)
Your peers’ (doctors and hospitals)experiences with implementation of electronic health records.

In the HITECH Act in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA), physicians and hospitals have an unprecedented opportunity to obtain funding for achieving meaningful use of an Electronic Health Record (EHR). Funding for hospitals and physicians will be available beginning in 2011 and extending through 2015 for those who are able to demonstrate meaningful use.

An average of $4 million to $6 million will be available for hospitals and approximately $44,000 per individual provider
in a provider practice
.

If physicians and hospitals are not meeting the meaningful use requirements by 2015, CMS will impose financial penalties by reducing reimbursements.
